Cape Town: Spokesperson for the Fire & Rescue Service of the City of Cape Town – Jermaine Carelse has shared update on Tokai Fire which occurred yesterday on April 27, 2025. The update clarified that no major flare ups were reported overnight.
Reportedly, the latest update was released today, on April 28, 2025, and it mentioned that the choppers will be airborne after an assessment. One female firefighter was injured and taken to hospital.
As of last-night, the fire was creeping down Boyes Drive, Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek Side, while on the Ou Kappse Weg side it moved towards Noordhoek. The firefighter crew remained on the fire line throughout the night.
Jermaine Carelse also unveiled that they are closely monitoring the situation and has urged the public to stay away from these areas. Moreover, an Incident Management Team Type-3 has been activated and will work on a 12-hour rotation.
The update provides greater oversight in managing the incident. Road closures will remain in place. However, donations in the form of water, energy drinks and bars, as well as non-perishable items may be dropped off at Lakeside Fire Station.
According to the last update, received at 6:00 p.m. on April 27, 2025 the Tokai Fire area was divided into five to maximise the capacity and surround the fire taking into account the wind speed and direction.
Also, the DRM assisted precautionary measure with the evacuation of 198 households from the Noordhoek Manor that includes 48 frail care residents. The residents of Barnyard and Silwersteen have decided to evacuate. The situation is still fluid and five choppers are still water bombing.
More than 100 city Firefighters were on scene, and were being assisted by TMNP, NCC and VWS. Then, the crews were monitoring Ou Kaapse Weg, Clovelly side, Tokai and Boyes Drive. The fire is not contained and they urged the public to stay away from the areas in question.
Considering this, City of Cape Town’s Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis also shared an effective post on his social media handle and presented is gratitude, by saying thank you for the messages and displays of support for the hundreds of fire fighters, 5 chopper crews and other crews from TMNP, VWS and NCC currently actively fighting the fire.

Lewis, asked the residents to follow the instructions of local officers and fire crews. As a precautionary measure the Disaster Risk Management of the City of Cape Town teams have assisted with the evacuation of around 198 households from the Noordhoek Manor area, including 48 frail care residents.
The fire fighters are doing a great job putting all their efforts to battle the fire and meanwhile protecting the people too with their team and experience grabbed last time.
