Cape Town: The City of Cape Town is on track and will begin with the refurbishment work of the Muizenberg Beachfront by the mid-February of year 2025. The project entails the major upgrades to public amenities and replacing the aged seawalls and will be complete by the end of 2026.
Reportedly, the engagements with stakeholders, business owners and the local community have started informing them of the time-frames that anticipated the impacts and measures to address the inconveniences, considering the ongoing work.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment – Alderman Eddie Andrews said that the refurbishment of the Muizenberg Beachfront is one of the biggest capital projects that the Coastal Management Branch of the City of Cape Town will undertake in recent years.
Andrews expressed that they are extremely excited about the revamp and the long-term benefits which this project will bring to the area, to the local community and the visitors. However, the beach will remain open but the reality is that the work will impact all of those who live and work in or nearby Muizenberg. It will also affect the visitors frequenting the beachfront.
Moreover, the project will be done in phases and the first work will commence along the western section of Surfer’s Corner, next to the railway line. The beach will remain open and accessible at all times.
Andrews further added that they will do everything to mitigate the impact. The magnitude of the project will cause inconveniences. In the given time frame, the engagements are already under way with the local businesses, other stakeholders and residents to inform all about what is coming and how the work will be phased.
A part of the preparation is establishing forums for ongoing engagement with stakeholders. The City of Cape Town will be monitoring the project closely to ensure that they remain on track.
