Kenya: The CCF Alex Lemarkoko has visited City Park in Nairobi with his team at the Kenya Forest Service. The officials have shared that the aim of the visit was to assess the progress of the clean-up and reclamation works.
The government of Kenya has been working hard to make the city and all the public places cleaner and more peaceful for the community. The officials have shared several images from the cleanup initiative and CCF Alex Lemarkoko’s visit
The park is the latest venue which is hosting the cleanup initiatives which is a necessity in light of the rampant unrest. The initiative was started following a directive by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Aden Duale.
The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is also a partner with the ministry in thee cleanup and reclamation works. The aim of the project is to ensure that the park is rehabilitated and secured for the residents of Nairobi.
With this, the children to have an additional safe and well conserved green zone for relaxation. The official have shared that the Chief Conservator of Forest
The CCF was accompanied by the Regional Commandant for Nairobi Jeniffer Wachira and the Forester in charge of City Park Ismael Adan interacted with the youth contracted to clean up the park under the Climate Works programme and thanked them for doing a good job. He also inspected renovation activities for the park’s infrastructure.
The historic park is under the management of Kenya Forest Service. This park had been invaded by suspected criminals, illegal settlers who had put up shanties.
The park was also being used as a dumping site for garbage from the nearby City Market and residential areas. The KFS officers deployed to the park are working with other stakeholders to ensure that it reverts back to its former glory as a place of relaxation and tranquillity.
Other officers who accompanied the CCF included the incoming Regional Commandant for Nairobi Ezra Barchok among others. The project will help the members of the community reclaim their public space for their own use.
