Zambia: The construction of the Kandundu bridge has elated residents of the Kandundu and Mushitala Communities in Solwezi District in North-Western Province.
The residents have disclosed that the construction and upgrade of the bridge and township roads will enhance efficiency and productivity for the local communities.
Kandundu Ward Development Committee Chairperson Cephas Chimwasu has told the media that road infrastructure development is critical to economic development.
He added that the development will significantly improve the quality and efficiency of the day-to-day business activities.
Chimwasu further said the construction of the bridge will help in curbing the cases of people drowning while accessing the crossing point.
“I applaud the government for prioritising development in local communities and ensuring distribution of equitable resources in all constituencies. Having a good road network enhances quality service and reduces the rate of accident occurrences”, he said.
Edwin Mulio a motorbiker, expressed gratitude to the government for the development adding that it will improve the transportation of customers as well as goods.
He added that a good road network will help in curbing the ever-increasing cases of accidents involving motorbikes that have left many people with lifelong disabilities.
Solwezi Municipal Council Director of Housing Lupinda Mwala said the bridge will create a link between the Mushitala and Kandundu communities and provide easy access to business activities.
Meanwhile, Information and Media Director Spokesperson Henry Kapata said good road infrastructure is key to boosting the economic growth of the country.
Kapata reiterated the government’s call to ensure communities have quality crossing points that will be accessible to all individuals, including motorists and motorcyclists.
Residents are thanking the media for giving them updates. One of the residents said, “Thanks for the update, and this is the way to go about it. Please let them also have a look at Kasisi road, and maybe open up another road through the farms around Kanakatapa school and clinic bordering Chief Chamuka and chieftess Nkomeshya to Pangwe school.”
He continued by saying, “ZNS can do this road from the road where tipper trucks pick sand and join the road coming from Chongwe heading to Great Northern Road at Pangwe School.”
