Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements – Councillor Carl Pophaim visited the Neptune Castle and Coral Place courts on Thursday, Feb 20, 2025, to accompany the Public Housing maintenance teams as they complete the maintenance and upgrade work at the affordable Community Residential Units (CRUs) of the City of Cape Town in Atlantis.
Reportedly, all the services by the City of Cape Town were present in the broader Atlantis area on the day, with teams offering the support to the residents at Saxonsea Community Hall, as well as going door-to-door.
The Service Blitz initiative of Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis forms a part which is taking a range of services directly to residents in various parts of the city.
Councillor Carl Pophaim said that they are excited to be in Atlantis to see themselves for the very real difference that the maintenance work is making residents to live. The maintenance teams are making their way throughout the metro to perform essential upkeep on CRUs in various areas.
Recently, they initiated a Public Housing campaign that focused on enhancing safety and conducting the maintenance in a respectful manner at the residential units. The objective is to significantly improve the quality of life for the residents by creating safer and more comfortable living environments.
Pophaim said that the City of Cape Town is committed to invest more than R1.2 billion in the coming years into CRUs across the metro, aiming to elevate the living standards of the city residents.
Councillor Carl Pophaim said that the Public Housing of the City of Cape Town holds significant personal importance for him. It was mesmerizing to witness the maintenance teams actively attending the service requests logged for Neptune Castle and Coral Place in Atlantis.
These notifications require all trades in the construction field. As one of the largest landlords of the South Africa and being a major provider of affordable housing. The City of Cape Town prioritises the well-being and comfort of the tenants.
Pophaim stated that he genuinely enjoyed the opportunity to visit different areas of the metro, where the residents call these units home and connect with them. He encouraged all the tenants to report any maintenance issues that they encounter in their units.
Notably, the public housing thrives as a collaborative effort, to rely on the active engagement of all stakeholders. He wants to express his gratitude to Team Cape Town for their dedication to create stronger, better and more comfortable homes for the residents.
