Botswana: The National Conference on Crime Prevention has concluded. The conference focused on promoting a collaborative and community-focused approach. The authorities believe that community Policing is the most effective strategy against crime prevention.
The Minister for State President, Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, was present at the closing ceremony for the event. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts of all sections of the country in policing.
The Minister said that the support of the community can help in prevention and detection of crime at all levels. He noted that the success of the initiative will be felt across spheres be it local, regional or international.
The Minister has also asked participants to continue reviewing and investing in these collaborative strategies. The high-level participation will help enhance the effectiveness of the initiative in combating sophisticated criminal activities.
Minister Mohwasa highlighted that Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, President of Botswana is worried about the rising reports of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and ritual killings. In line with this, he has been pushing forward for a multi-pronged approach to addressing these issues.
The Minister asked the people to actively participate in crime prevention. He noted that it is the responsibility of the people to safeguard democracy. Minister claimed that they can help protect the peace of Botswana for future generations.
The Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe extended her most sincere gratitude to the Minister. She appreciated the leader for taking time from his busy schedule to be a part of the Conference. Thee commissioner of Police also thanked the attendants who made it to the conference. The attendants include Dikgosi, government departments, business community, crime prevention committees and police officers.
The Commissioner noted that the Conference was a platform to facilitate learning for the communication. The conference and pivotal in strengthening BPS relationships with its stakeholders, in the process committing BPS to the development and implementation of the conference resolutions.
The Conference was also attended by several international delegates, including Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Zambia Police The attendance of the international partners is a proof of the importance of regional cooperation in crime prevention efforts.
