South Africa: Breyton town in Msukaligwa Local Municipality came alive when learners from the four education districts of the province displayed their talents and spirit of resilience and endurance during the cross country provincial championship held on 10 September 2022 at Breyton Primary School.
Learners between the ages of 9 and 19 participated in the 2, 4, 6 and 8 Kilometre distance cross country competitions.
The Cross Country event is one of the events coordinated and staged annually in all Provinces following the Circuit and District eliminations.
It forms part of the extracurricular activities the department is implementing to enhance the learning and teaching experience in schools.
These activities come with great benefits to learners as proven that learners who are physically active tend to have better grades, improved school attendance and cognitive performance.
A total of 1080 boys and girls athletes from all the districts have participated, where-in 168 were selected to participate in the National Cross Country Championships to be held on the 1 October 2022 in East London in the Eastern Cape.
