Kenya: Cabinet Secretary in the government of Kenya Ababu Namwamba hosted a meeting with filmmakers in the country. The meeting was hosted on Tuesday at Nairobi Street Kitchen in Westlands.
The discussion was attended by Nicholas Weinstock, Founder/President of Invention Studios, LA, US. The meeting was hosted for the benefit of the Kenya Film Makers. The Ministry shared glimpses from the event on their social media account and shared some details.
This one-on-one engagement aimed to boost the creative industry of Kenya. The Cabinet Secretary aims to do so by fostering partnerships with key stakeholders. “We have signed an agreement with the Grammys to expand our film industry,” he noted.
This agreement will serve as an important step to enhancing Kenya’s presence on the global stage of entertainment. The agreement will also help in strengthening the audiovisual sector. Thus, the partnerships solidifies Kenya’s position in the international creative landscape.
“We know the value of partnership by joining dots across Africa and the world.” He emphasized. This sentiment underscores the importance of collaboration in driving innovation and growth within the creative sphere.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Creative Economy has been working hard to strengthen the sector. They have hosted several events in line with this mandate, including the Youth Connekt Africa.
During the event, Kenya played host to 20,000 youth from various parts of Africa in the country. The Ministry revealed that Youth Connekt Africa aimed to foster a sense of unity and collaboration among youths in Africa.
The Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba was happy to acknowledge the support of the Government of Kenya in the development of the creative economy. He was grateful for the partnership between the Kenyan government and the government of United States.
This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to nurturing and promoting the creative talents of Kenyan youth.
CS reiterated the government’s deliberate, international, and structured efforts to propel the creative economy. These efforts are aligned with BETA and are aimed at actualizing initiatives such as Talanta Hela, which focuses on talent identification, nurturing, and monetization.
Through strategic partnerships and focused initiatives, Kenya’s creative industry is poised for exponential growth and global recognition.
Emphasizing transparency and accessibility, CS Ababu stated, “It is imperative that the public has easy access to information regarding the collaboration between our governments in fostering growth and innovation within the creative economy.”
