Mauritius: The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Darsanand Balgobin, officially opened the Mauritius Post Parcel Centre in Brisée Verdière. The official opening cermony for the post parcel center was hosted on Friday.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister also unveiled the commemorative plate to honor the occasion. The Government officials shared some glimpses from the event on their social media. The opening event was attended by government officials.
The Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, Sudheer Maudhoo; the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Sanjit Kumar Nuckcheddy; the Chairman of the Mauritius Post Ltd, Mr Ranna Swamber; and other personalities were present at the event.
Minister Darsanand Balgobin delivered a brief address highlighted that the Mauritius Post Parcel Centre in Brisée Verdière. He noted that this is the 116th post office around the island of Mauritius.
He added that it will offer all the existing services of other post offices, in addition to the parcel service. He pointed out that the Mauritius Post Ltd deals with more than one million parcels each year, especially with the online shopping phenomenon.
As such, he indicated, this new parcel centre will enable citizens to send and receive parcels more effectively and easily. He underscored that pickup services will be available, especially to collect parcels bought online, while postmen will also offer home delivery services to citizens.
Furthermore, Minister Balgobin remarked that the Authorities are currently working on the possibility of opening a Mauritius Telecom branch in the vicinity.
For his part, Minister Maudhoo underlined that this post office will offer innovative services to the inhabitants of the vicinity, especially with the parcel centre now at their disposal. He moreover reminded that, despite several difficulties, Government remained committed to ensure the socio-economic development of the country.
As for PPS Nuckcheddy, he enumerated several projects which have been inaugurated in the region and which offer more facilities to citizens while enhancing their quality of life. In addition, he provided details regarding the history of postal services in Mauritius.
Swamber, for his part, observed that this new outlet of the Mauritius Post Ltd aims at offering enhanced services to the inhabitants of the locality. He also dwelt on some recommendations of the 10-year strategic plan of the Mauritius Post Ltd.
