Botswana: De Beers Group donated office furniture to the Botswana Police Service worth over P70,000 on Tuesday at Police Headquarters in Gaborone.
While giving the donation, Senior Manager Security-Midstream at De Beers Group, Mpho Mogodiri, talked about the importance of law in the country and enforcement in maintaining public safety.
He highlighted that by recognizing the pivotal role of the Police, De Beers Group aligns itself with the overarching goal of community well-being.
Manager Mogodiri articulated the transformative impact that partnerships between private entities and public services can have on local communities. He noted that the donation of furniture not only provides tangible support to the Police but also symbolizes a powerful collaborative effort between the private sector and law enforcement to create safer and more effective communities.
He also said the commitment to empowering BPS through donation demonstrates a recognition of the challenges faced by law enforcement in ensuring public safety and security. He stressed the need for adaptability and enough resources to enable law enforcement agencies to effectively carry out their duties in the face of evolving challenges.
In a gracious acceptance of the donation, Deputy Commissioner of Operations Solomon Mantswe expressed heartfelt gratitude to De Beers Group for their resourceful gesture. Mantswe underscored the significance of the donation, considering the current resource challenges faced by the government.
He commended De Beers Group for recognizing the relevance and timeliness of the donation, emphasizing its practical impact on meeting the demands for quality service, particularly in the context of limited resources.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated the positive impact of the partnership on working relations between the BPS and De Beers Group. This is exhibited by an unwavering commitment to safeguarding one of the nation’s most precious assets, where the BPS took a proactive step in 2013 by establishing the Diamond and Mineral Protection Unit (DMPU).
He highlighted that the strategic move reflects the dedication of the BPS to scoring well-coordinated efforts aimed at shielding diamonds from criminal activities and ensuring careful case investigations with the utmost professionalism.
As a result, the Deputy Commissioner anticipates that the collaborative effort as demonstrated through the donation, relationships will be strengthened, highlighting the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving shared goals such as public safety and efficient service delivery.
