Debswana diamonds donate to orphan and vulnerable children

Botswana: Debswana Diamonds Company donated winter clothes and a P10 000.00 voucher for toiletries to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC’s). The beneficiaries who received his donation fall under the care of Social and Community Development Department.

The Debswana Diamond Company made the donation to the Gaborone City Council with the aim to help 52 beneficiaries within Gaborone. Councillor for Government ward and the Chairperson for Social and Community Development Committee, Joyce Tumagole spoke at the handover.

He extended gratitude towards Debswana for their unending spirit of giving towards GCC. Tumagole acknowledged that it is not the first time Debswana has extended a helping hand towards the city council. He further added that the efforts of the administration should be acknowledged and praised.

Molemisi N. Sechaba who is the Head of Information Management at Debswana also talked about the donation initiative. He said that it is the mandate of their company that every diamond mined from Botswana be of benefit to the people.

Furthermore Sechaba said that Debswana intends to help build Botswana with its resources therefore will always work together with its stakeholders to give back to the community in which they operate.

Senior Information Management Manager at Debswana Ludo Kenosi highlighted that it is in their mandate as a company to make life brilliant. She highlighted their initiative which reads “One dream, one team, making life brilliant”.

She further said that driven by their initiative they saw it fit to donate winter clothes to the beneficiaries of GCC because clothes are a basic necessity which bring dignity to a person’s life and thereby making their life brilliant.

Moreover Kenosi emphasized that they not only want to just donate clothes and vouchers but will also take a step further as Debswana in training four OVC’s in information technology and coding.

On the other hand, Acting Chief Social and Community Development Officer Nattash K. Maphane expressed gratitude towards Debswana. She applauded them for the immense work they do in assisting GCC where it falls short.

Maphane said that it is the mandate of GCC to work together with other stakeholders to make a change in the community of Gaborone.
