Africa: The Free State Department of Social Development hosted a ‘Take a Child to Work’ Campaign at the Provincial Office, where they welcomed learners from Moemedi High School as well as the Grade 9 Learners placed under Tshireletsong Child and Youth Care Centre to be amongst learners attending the Campaign. Twenty-nine learners were hosted.
Take a Child (girl and boy) to Work Campaign is an Annual Corporate Social Investment Campaign that was launched in 2003. The main purpose of this Campaign is to provide learners with the opportunity to experience a structured, comprehensive and valuable introduction to the work environment.
This is an opportunity for the grade 9 learners to make informed decisions when they choose their subjects in grade 10 which will eventually guide them in making the right career choices.
The learners were welcomed by the Acting Head of Department, Adv. Pahlo, Executive and Senior Managers and the Special Programmes Unit deployed learners to various working stations where they were exposed to the working environment.
Learners also went to Botshabelò to the Charlotte Maxeke Substance Abuse Treatment Centre to explore various departments that are under the Centre.
All this was done with the aim of giving the learners exposure to the different fields that exist in the Department as well as encouraging them to consider it as a future career choice.
After Lunch, the learners were graced with the presence of the MEC, Mme Motlagomang ‘Mamiki’ Qabathe, who was very happy to spend time with the learners. She addressed them and gave them words of Wisdom. She also gave them goody bags for the learners to take home, along with certificates of appreciation and participation.
The Department expressed gratitude for the chance to participate in such an important Campaign and wishes the learners well.
