Africa: Excitement filled the marquee in Kwa Mantungwa this morning as all eleven chiefs and their headsman from Amajuba District handed over much-needed equipment to assist in facilitating meetings in their constituencies.
As part of the Rock Leadership programme Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with Pernod Ricard, handed over the much needed equipment after an outcry by the traditional leaders during the launch of the district’s Traditional Men’s Parliament, where they expressed that the lack of meeting equipment posed a difficulty for any community engagements in their communities constituencies.
“We felt the need to assist the traditional leaders as an industry. We would like to see more conversations on responsible drinking as a way of addressing the social ills in our country, “ Pamela Nkuna, Corporate Affairs Director, South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa at Pernod Ricard.
The Rock Leadership is the department’s Social Behavior Charge programme which focuses on traditional leaders as partners in the prevention of new HIV infections and other social ills.
“We really appreciate our partner Pernod Ricard who heeded our call when we knocked on their doors. Government cannot reach all in need alone. When the private sector continues to play such roles, more people can be reached, and so much can be done,” said Deputy Minister Bogopane Zulu.
In fulfilling another commitment, Deputy Minister, in partnership with Distell, will hand over a cheque to the value of Two Hundred Thousand Rand to the Mpilenhle recycling centre in Newcastle, Amajuba District, on 16 August 2022.
