Zambia: The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in Mbala district has donated various items to flood victims in Munyezi area in Mwambezi Ward. The donation comes in favour of the people who have been working hard to make sure that the members of the Community who were struck by floods.
The donations that have come from the DMMU include items of daily use. The members of the community have already extended their sincere gratitude to the members of the DMMU.
The officials have shared that they will continue to support the people who are in a state of crisis. The Mbala District Commissioner, Jestus Sikazwe, has confirmed the incident to the media on Saturday during the distribution exercise.
He also informed the members of the media that the donation was done in Mbala. It was also confirmed that the items delivered include tents, mosquito nets, blankets and mattresses.
Furthermore, officer Sikazwe has explained that the items will be given to people whose houses and property were damaged by heavy rains in March this year. The communities have been asking the administration for support and relief donations which have finally been taken to them.
He stated that the intervention was aimed at providing immediate assistance to the affected families. The family ensuring that they have shelter and basic needs during the difficult time.
“The DMMU is committed to ensuring that all affected households receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives. We are working tirelessly to assess the extent of the damage and provide further assistance where necessary,” Mr. Sikazwe said.
In March this year, Mbala’s Munyenzi area experienced heavy rains which damaged houses and household properties. The members of the media have shared that it is crucial for the people of the country to extend their own support.
Floods and rains have been causing widespread damages to the houses. Several families have had to relocate in the past due to incessant rains and floods.
