Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica welcomed Chargé d’Affaires Karin Sullivan of the United States Embassy, Bridgetown and officials from the United States Southern Command. The officials were present for the handover of an Administrative Annex to the Emergency Operations Center in Jimmit for disaster preparedness.
These stakeholders also handed over a a Disaster Relief Warehouse and Mini-Emergency Operations Center in Portsmouth. The Prime Minister shared some images from the handover on their social media.
The structures will help the Government of Dominica in navigating the upcoming Trans Atlantic Hurricane Season. The officials have shared that the donation will help in protecting the people of the island nation.
The people of the country can visit the centres in time of crisis and ask for support. The Prime Minister had welcomed the Chargé d’Affaires Karin Sullivan of the United States Embassy, Bridgetown on Tuesday.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister had given the Chargé d’Affaires a warm welcome for her diplomatic trip. The island nation has been working hard to become the first climate resilient nation in the Caribbean.
The donation of the infrastructure done by Chargé d’Affaires Karin Sullivan of the United States Embassy, Bridgetown and officials from the United States Southern Command will help the country in this direction. The Prime Minister noted that the donation items will be able to support Dominica’s Disaster response.
The infrastructure is constructed under a budget of USD$3 million. Dr Roosevelt Skerrit noted that the infrastructure will improve the country’s disaster preparedness and citizens security as the hurricane season begins on June 1.
The beginning of the Trans Atlantic Hurricane Season is only one week away and the nation has already stareed their preparation. The officials have noted that the members of the community are being urged to remain cautious and vigilant as the hurricane season approaches.
Ahead of the beginning of the 2025 trans Atlantic hurricane season, PM Rooevelt Skerrit was grateful for the support that United States has extended to Dominica. During the handover of the disaster preparedness infrastructure, government of Dominica also thanked the United States of America for USD $2.1 million in funding for a new fire and ambulance station in La Plaine.
