Dominica: The Commonwealth of Dominica is less than two weeks away from celebrating the 46th anniversary of their independence from the British empire.The La Plaine community of Dominica hosted the Heritage Day celebration ahead of independence day
The Independence Day celebration of Dominica is scheduled for November 3, which will be commemorating the day with many events. Meanwhile, pre independence events have started being hosted all over the country.
During the Heritage day celebration Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit honored the Cultural Elder of the country Hilda Prosper. La Plaine was celebrating the Heritage Day at La Plaine on Sunday.
The Prime Minister participated in the celebration, and honored the elder in front of the community. He also encouraged the members of the community to take pride in their culture, heritage and roots.
To this end, the country is celebrating October as Creole Month, paying homage to the history of Dominica and its people
The heritage day celebration is part of the Independence day celebration which will continue for the next two weeks. The heritage day is also a part of the creole month celebration, which would culminate in the nation’s most anticipated World Creole Music Festival.

During the independence themed heritage day celebration, people were dressed in the national colors of Dominica. The Prime Minister of Dominica shared some images from the sashing ceremony.
PM Skerrit was proud to honor the elder for her guidance and contribution to the community. The people of La Plaine chose Hilda prosper to be this year’s winner for the cultural elder title.
Prosper is a former leader of the La Plaine Bele Group. She is a sportswoman and community leader who has helped La Plaine constituency prosper into what it is today.
The Prime Minister was honored to sash the elder and recognize the contributions that she has made to the community. The Prime Minister of Dominica reflected on the rich history of La Plaine, noting that the place has roots in Europe.
