Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit lauds ‘Build Back Equal’ Project of UN

Dominica: The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services, in partnership with United Nations (UN) Women and United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), launched the ‘Build Back Equal’ Project in Dominica on Monday.

Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, provided an update regarding the launch of the “Build Back Equal” project in the country on Monday, June 5th, 2023. 

Ministry of Health, Wellness and Social Services of Dominica launched the project associated with the United Nations (UN) Women and United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA). 

Prime Minister Skerrit gave this information through his official Facebook page, saying, ” this project is being implemented not only in Dominica but also in other Caribbean countries like Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines with funding from Global Affairs Canada.

The Prime Minister of Dominica also explained the role of women and how they are going to benefit from this initiative and exceptional benefits in many fields.  

He said, “the 4-year joint project will contribute to women’s economic resilience in the Eastern Caribbean by addressing the barriers they face to economic empowerment and providing increased sustainable opportunities for growth and independence.”

Many other foreign Ministers of the Caribbean attended the event. Exec Director of Lifeline Ministries Tina Alexnder also attended and enjoyed the event and expressed her happiness on social media. 

She wrote: “I enjoyed this stakeholders meeting at Intercontinental. Great to hear the Prime Minister say all the right things and to meet ministers and gender activists from Dominica St Vincent St Lucia and Grenada.”

She expressed pleasure and said that it is lovely to see colleagues from UN Women and UNFPA and to hear that the Canadian Government is putting its money where its mouth is and is investing 10 million in building back equality in the four territories. 

Build Back Equal’ project means to the women of Dominica who will benefit from it. In the Caribbean, women entrepreneurs form only 8% of total entrepreneurs. Women entrepreneurs have benefited from sponsored training in leadership and empowerment by UN Women’s Caribbean. 

Women in Dominica are looking forward organization’s goals to assist women in gaining economic empowerment through this project and anticipating that it will make a significant improvement in the lives of its beneficiaries.
