Nigeria: One of the leading Islamic media agencies in Nigeria, Dpath To Jannah Media Hub, on Sunday, held her second edition of a media seminar and award ceremony for Muslim students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The media seminar, which was held at Ibikunle Lawal College, Parakin, Ile Ife, is aimed at training Muslim students on the rudiments of journalism.
Speaking at the event, the director of the media hub, Mr Sodiq Lawal, said, “The mainstream media has long been engaged in toxic propaganda against Muslims, and this new calamity has seriously been affecting the Muslims. It is quite understandable because the majority of Muslims are not equipped to foresee the course of the trajectory of their agenda. Hence, Dpath To Jannah Media Hub finds the need for Muslims to undergo media training for them to be able to be well-equipped in journalism.
Furthermore, he said, “Our focus is to train Muslim students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria on the fundamental principles of journalism. We focus on training them on print media, electronic media, marketing and public relations.”
During the seminar, the first speaker, Alhaji AbdurRazaq Adegboyega AbdusSalam, popularly known as Abu Umar Al-Faruq, who spoke on the topic ‘Islam and Social Media: Our Duties As Muslims’ urged Muslim students to deploy social media for peace, and educational development, as well as to propagate and expand the Islamic religion.
He urged them to take advantage of social media to evangelise and share useful contents to educate social media users. “Social media can be used for the greater good if we create a positive alternative to it,” he said.
