South Africa: A drunk driver was apprehended by members of the community after he attempted to flee the scene of a collision in Riet River – KZN a short while ago (Saturday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance at approximately 13:21. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a large crowd standing around an intoxicated male. He was allegedly the driver of a UD 40L truck.
According to the public, the driver collided with a champagne Toyota Tazz. He continued to drive recklessly and narrowly missed running over a 57 year old who was carrying his 18 month old grandson.
The intoxicated male then abandoned his vehicle, which rolled and collided with a wall as he fled on foot. The community pursued and apprehended him. They located bottles of alcohol in his vehicle (picture 3).
Reaction Officers are awaiting the arrival of the Verulam SAPS.
