Durban, South Africa: Durban FilmMart SA (DFMI) has announced the opening of submissions for the 17th ‘Talents Durban’, which is a dynamic talent development programme in association with the Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival.
Interested participants can submit their entries by the deadline of Thursday, January 26, 2024.
As per the sources, the organisers have also called for live-action projects in development. They have invited project submissions for the 15th Durban FilmMart SA, which is Africa’s leading film finance and co-production market.
The submissions are open for full-length feature and documentary film projects and series content with Africans. The three key creative roles such as writers, directors and producers are looking for the following:
- Co-producers
- Financers
- Sales agents
- Streamers
- Broadcasters
- Funders
Interested filmmakers can submit applications through the DFMI official website by the deadline of Friday, January 20, 2024.
The 15th edition of DFM is scheduled to be held in the summer from July 19 to 22, 2024, in Durban, South Africa. It is the flagship event of the Durban FilmMart Institute and recognised in UNESCO’s 2021 Film Trends in Africa Report as ‘the continent’s best film market’.
The event is designed to generate visibility for African content, promote talent, and create partnerships to extend the development and production of African Cinema.
Criteria to submit the application:
- African filmmakers can register themselves with an active feature-length or episodic project in development
- Both fiction and documentary projects are acceptable
- At least one of the three key creatives, producer, writer or director, must be from Africa or from the African Diaspora.
- It is mandatory for all the applicants to fill out the applications in English
- The filmmakers are free to choose any language for the project
- At least one representative must be available to participate in the mentorship programme and also be present in Durban during the 15th Durban FilmMart.
The One-on-One mentorship programme will be observed online from May to July 2024. Whereas, the Pitch and Finances Forum will be conducted in person, from July 18 to 22, 2024.
