Zambia: The government of Zambia has handed over 140 vehicles to citizens chosen from the ten provinces of the country. The Minister of Youth Elvis Nkadu, share that the vehicles are valued at approximately 40 million Kwacha.
The Minister noted that the vehicles are being given to the chosen individuals as a loan. The President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, started the initiative with the aim of empowering the people of the country.
Through the vehicles, the people of the country can venture into different careers and create better economic opportunities for themselves. The Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts shared the glimpses from the handover ceremony on his social media.
Minister Elvis is also serving as the Acting Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development
He claimed that he was happy to be present at the handover ceremony on behalf of the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema. He also delivered a brief speech at the handover ceremony on behalf of the head of state.
Minister Elvis Nkadu noted that The Transport Empowerment Programme is one of the many Government initiatives which aims to promote business sense among the people. The initiative is being implemented through the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.
The launch of the new citizen empowerment programme was held on Thursday for the transport sector of the country. At the event, President Hichilema was ably represented by the Acting Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises Development.
In his address, the president assured the people of the country of the government’s commitment to support their empowerment. He added that the government is allowing the people to own many facilities and participate in economic activities.
Minister Nkadu also talked about the programmes of the government aimed at alleviating economic challenges. The transport empowerment programme is one of the initiatives which would help households.
The initiative will further help the households get access to better employement opportunities. Another initiative with the same aim was “Own a taxi, Mini-bus, and light truck loan product.”
The government, through this programme, has been instilling hope for a better tomorrow.
