Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe: The suspected 30-year-old female robber from Chitungwiza has appeared in court. There were allegations on the robber of robbing cash and valuables worth US $5,800 from a house in Harare.

As per the sources, Muchaneta Diana Zvimba was accused of robbery charges when she appeared before the Magistrate of Harare – Esther Chichera. Since then, she was remanded in custody and only the High Court can grant bail for robbery suspects.

According to the narration recorded by the police, the allegations were that on Dec 21, Kumbirai Wadzanai Gwata heard the sound of a door getting opened forcefully when he was asleep.

Reportedly, the courts have recorded the statement that Zvimba and her accomplices were armed with a pistol when they entered the bedroom and ordered Gwata and his family to remain silent before demanding cash.

According to the reports, Zvimba’s gang has ransacked the following things from the house of Kumbirai Wadzanai Gwata:

  • 1 Lenovo laptop
  • Two iPhone 13 cell phones
  • 1 iPhone 11 cell phone
  • 1 LG cellphone
  • 1 Huawei cellphone
  • 1 Galaxy Tablet
  • 1 Playstation Controller
  • Play Station Headphones
  • Jewellery
  • Six different types of perfumes
  • Wristwatch
  • Toyota Hilux Keys
  • Honda CRV Keys
  • US $300 cash

Notably, the value of the stolen items was calculated to approximate US $5,800 and nothing has been recovered yet.

Now, the suspect will present herself in front of Magistrate Chichera, and a trial will be conducted.

Many such cases are occurring related to robbery and theft as various people are reporting similar incidents.

Recently, the Zimbabwe Republic Police appreciated the local public for helping them in arresting a robber, Godfrey Njoromore, aged 48 when he was trying to run away from the officers in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

Considering the same, Zimbabwe Republic Police applauded the general public for supplying useful information to the police and reiterated that there is no going back in the fight against armed robbery syndicates which involve both local and foreign suspects.

As per the recent records, over 2200 robbers were convicted by the courts in 2023. More than 700 trials are still undergoing legal procedures.

Metropolitan cities, Harare and Bulawayo, topped the list with 412 male armed robbers and 2 females in Harare, while 189 males were arrested in Bulawayo.
