Zambia: First Lady of Zambia Mutinta Hichilema has brought Christmas cheer to the Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. The officials have shared that the first lady donated 25 baby hampers to newborns at the hospital.
The donation was made to the maternity ward of the Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital. The First Lady of Zambia was represented at the hospital by the Lusaka Provincial Minister Sheal Mulyata.
The Provincial Minister presented the donated hampers on behalf of the First Lady. She has congratulated the mothers on the occasion of Christmas. She also encouraged the mothers to take good care of their children.
The staff members at the Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital welcomed the donation received on behalf of the First Lady. The Senior Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Charles Mutemba shared the details of the donation handover.
According to the hospital leadership, four babies were born on Christmas midnight and nine babies were born on the day of the Christmas eve.
Senior Medical Superintendent Mutemba said that the hospital recorded fewer deliveries compared to last year. Officially, 30 children were born on the day of Christmas in the year 2023.
He highlighted that most of the mothers were prime gravidas, with an average age of 20, and commended the quality of delivery services provided at the hospital.
Senior Medical Superintendent Mutemba said that they are grateful for the Minister for officiating the event and for the generous donation on Christmas Day.
Ruth Chibwe, a first-time mother, thanked the Minister for the donation and praised the services provided at the health facility.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health’s Provincial Health Director, Simulyamana Choonga, revealed that Lusaka Province recorded 63 newborns by 8:00 AM on Christmas Day.
Simulyamana assured the public that the hospital is a safe place for childbirth, urging people to have confidence in the country’s healthcare system.
He also commended Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata and other Government officials for their goodwill messages and donations to the mothers and newborns across the country.
