Zambia: The Forestry Department in Northern Province has pledged to plant over 140,000 trees in different sites in the province. The officials have shared hat the members of the community will also support this mandate of the administration.

The tree plantation drive of the Forest department is a significant steep in the  direction of climate action. Afforestation, which seeks to promote tree plantation all over the world, is on of the most affective measures to fight climate change.

The tree plantation exercise will be officially launched in December as the climate will be ideal for growth of trees. The leaders have shared many details regarding the upcoming tree plantation  exercise.

Provincial Forestry Officer, Sharon Kunda, has disclosed that the department is scheduled to launch the tree planting exercise on December 15 this year when the grand temperature will be favourable for trees.

The forestry officer made the revalation when she was interacting with the media in Kasama on Wednesday. Kunda indicated that all preparations have been made in all the sites where trees will be planted.

“We have prepared the nurseries and sites for this year’s tree planting and soon the exercise will be launched,” she said.

Kunda has since called on individuals who want to take part in the tree planting exercise to visit the nearest forestry department offices so that they can be guided on how to plant their trees.

She said people should also plant trees in their respective areas so that they can contribute to natural resources management. The forest cover is one of the most important assets for a country, even though the asset is visibly dwindling in many nations.

The replenishment of forest resources will help in the development of the country in all spheres and sectors. The members  have shared that it is important for the  people to participate in the exercise as this way they will be motivated to protect the forests.
