Zambia: Some people found a abandoned four month old in a toilet in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound. The people who found the child took him to the police after which the baby was rushed to the hospital.
The officials have shared that the child was checked into the Kanyama Level One hospital by the police force. Further the maternity ward has shared the details of the incident with the media members.
The in charge of the maternity ward, Christine Nyoni has shared that she is highly disheartened by the incident as it happened around new year. The incident has left the people in shock as it sheds light on the varying circumstances of the community.
The reason for the child’s abandonment is not currently clear. However, the administration is advocating for a strict action on the people who abandon their children.
The agitation of the administration makes it clear that this is not an isolated incident and needs more attention. Meanwhile, the authorities have confirmed thatthe baby is healthy and currently under the hospital’s care.
The hospital staff has shared that they are waiting for the law enforcement to take the next appropriate steps. Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata has also pledged to bring the people responsible for this incident to justice.
He has asked the members of the community and the police to help seeing the perpetrators through to justice. The Minister has also confirmed that he is shocked by the incident and called on general public to refrain from such actions.
Minister Mulyata claimed that the government is always ready to take care of children and has taken several tangible steps in this direction. She also confirmed that the well being of the people is a priority for the administration.
As such, he urged the people to make sure they do not dump and abandon their children general citizenry, therefore people must refrain from dumping children.
And Kanyama Member of Parliament has also expressed his sadness on the issue. He claimed that he saw the President of Zambia is spreading love and care through the delivery of hampers to new born babies. Meanwhile, others are abandoning babies.
He has since called on members of the public to come forward if they have information of perpetrators.
