Botswana: 2024 final National Arts Festival competitions for contemporary music was hosted in Francistown Botswana. The event featured a remarkable display of talent from the musical creatives of the nation.
The officials have shared several images from the competition on their social media account. Over 16 groups and individuals came together to compete and come out as champions of the respective category.
The National Arts Festival was organized by the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB). The CEO of the organization, Shombi Ellis reflected on the importance of hosting the event regularly.
She highlighted that the creative industry is mostly led by the passionate and vibrant young Batswana. She acknowledged the value and contribution of young people to the economic diversification and development of the country in the creative sector.
“As we strive towards becoming a high income economy, sectors such as the creative industry should be amongst the major contributors and a source of employment creation”, Ellis expressed.
The District Coordinator at MYSC Francistown, Tiny Tamasiga Gontse pointed out that as the custodians of the creative arts, they have recognized that the industry is very much capable of unearthing many more talented youth who will be the future employers for tomorrow to help empower others.
Further, Deputy Mayor of the city of Francistown Lesego Kwambala expressed gratitude to the opportunity of hosting the competitions. He also noted that it will help stimulate growth to local businesses and make profits especially the service providers.
He urged artists to take their art seriously, forge partnerships with others in the industry, benchmark and aim for international audience reach through proper use of social media platforms.
