South Africa: MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, the Premier of Free State joined South Africa and the global community to remember and honour Dr. Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela. Madela was a a stalwart of the struggle, a nation builder, international icon, and above all, the father of a nation.
The whole nation united as one to honor the memory of the first President and founding father of South Africa. The theme of the celebration for this year’s Nelson Mandela Day for free state was “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity.”
The officials of the Office of the Premier of Free state celebrated the day by honoring the views of Mandela. They made several financial contributions to the needy families gave gifts and spent time with some beneficiaries
The vulnerable individuals in Bloemfontein, including children, the elderly, and people living with disabilities were happy to receive the support.
Officials divided their efforts across four programs, visiting and donating to:
- Nthabiseng Child and Youth Care Centre in Batho Location,
- Old Age Home in Willows,
- Shelter for the Homeless in Navilsig, and
- Centre for the Disabled.
The donations included blankets to repel the winter chill, bulks of essential food supplies, toiletries, gift packs for children. The people in need were also given warm clothing and shoes, adult diapers, fresh fruits, and nutritious snack packs.
Deputy Director-General, Dr. Mafole delivered a brief address to the elderly residents of Old Age Home. He highlighted that the office of the premier wants to extend their gratitude to people who sacrificed for the wellbeing of future generations.
He said that it was a debt that can never be repaid. The Deputy Director General asserted that they are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need.
During his visit, Director-General Kopung Ralikontsane appreciated the management of Nthabiseng Child and Youth Care Centre. He highlighted the organization’s their work in uplifting the community and running the centre with dedication and discipline.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped in making the program a resounding success.
