Botswana: The Mayor of Gaborone, Austin Abraham attended the North West District Council Chairman’s charity walk. The event was hosted over the weekend with several members of the Gaborone City Council in attendance
The officials of the Gaborone City Council shared the glimpses from the event on the official social media platforms. The Chairman’s charity walk served as a symbol of unity between Council Chairmans and Mayors.
The aim of the Chairman’s charity walk initiative was to raise funds for the less fortunate members of the society. Further, the funds from the initiative will also help the members of the community who are affected by emergency situations whilst waiting to be assisted by govern programmes.
Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture (MYSC) Honest Buti Billy attended the charity walk. He applauded the North West District Council Chairman for this initiative as it shows a step towards mindset change.
He was happy that the administration of Gaborone under Mayor Austin Abraham did not wait for the government to assist them. Instead, they came up with ways to generate funding to assist those in need.
Assistant Minister of MYSC Billy further discussed the importance of such initiatives. He claimed that they raise funds for the less fortunate and promote fitness in the community.
The event was hosted for the benefit of the country’s vulnerable populations. North West District Council Chairman Itemeleng Kelebetseng was also present.
He extended gratitude to all Council Chairmans and Mayors and counterparts who supported their charity walk. He reiterated that the initiative will help in showing unity amongst Councils. He also extended his gratitude towards different government bodies as well as social clubs.
The event was attended by several officials from the administration of Gaborone, including:
- Councillor for Maruapula Ward Jenamiso Mathalaza,
- Wellness Coordinator as well as Chief Human Resource & Administration Officer Khumo Maruza
- Local Authorities & Health Inter Sporting Association (LAHISA) team Gaborone Chairperson Clement Motsomi.
