Gaborone: The Mayor of Gaborone has urged the Contractor to do a stellar job on the maintenance works of Boitumelo Primary School in Sebele Ward. The Mayor, Austin Abraham, is also the area councillor for the ward and is dedicated to developing the area.

He was present at the handover ceremony for the Contract for the maintenance work. He informed the contractors that their work would result in building a good reputation for their company and all companies owned by the people of Botswana.

The City Mayor said engaging citizen-owned companies remains a priority for social and economic development. Therefore, Contractors should prove their worth by delivering desired outcomes.

Abraham emphasized that there is a need to engage residents of Sebele Ward to take part and benefit from this project. He advised the Contractor to take advantage of school breaks and begin pushing the work.

He advised them to start with class interiors as this will allow students to use classrooms when school opens.

The School Head, Christopher Ditirwa, was also present at the handover of the Contract for the maintenance work. He applauded the Gaborone City Council for starting the work in Boitumelo Primary School.

He asserted that the learning environment was not conducive for both Learners and Teachers previously. Ditirwa also highlighted that student’s safety should not be compromised in this maintenance process. He added that the Contractor should try by all means to do much of the work before the school opens.

Acting Chief Architecture and Building Services Officer Mr George Mogome advised the Contractor to put more effort and ensure the project is completed on time. He further urged the Contractor to maintain and uphold good work ethics, as the project is undertaken in a learning environment lest students are exposed to harm.

The Contract is awarded to The Jungle Thrive (Pty)Ltd at a sum of P 2,239,916.98 and is expected to commence on 18 December of 2023 and be completed on 24 May 2024.
