Botswana: Tagore Society of Botswana hosted a cultural night on October 29, 2023—the initiative aimed to embrace a shared experience that showcases Bengali traditions and the heritage of India.
Mayor of Gaborone City, Austin Abraham, said the cultural event is a testament to the enduring love and dedication that the Bengali Community has for its traditions and heritage.
The City Mayor commended the Tagore Society for its exceptional efforts in preserving the Bengali Culture and fostering a spirit of understanding and friendship among various communities.
He said this demonstrates the power of cultural exchange and unity as it united people in Gaborone regardless of their cultural backgrounds. Abraham urged the Indian Community to continue working together in harmony.
The High Commissioner of India to Botswana was also present at the Cultural night. He spoke to the attendants of the initiative.
In his address, the High Commissioner of India to Botswana, Kumar Kuthati, said the cultural event helps to preserve and nurture rich culture and traditions as well as promote cultural exchange between India and Botswana.
The Indian High Commissioner to Botswana said the Bengali community is vibrant and dynamic. He also highlighted that some Bengali diaspora has been in this country for many years if not decades. He said apart from being a source of support for the Bengali community. They have been playing an important role in the socio-economic development of this country.
He highlighted philanthropic activities of the community in individual and collective capacity.
Kuthati disclosed that the High Commission has been issuing medical visas to Batswana on the same day the application is submitted. He also revealed that the Botswana Cricket Association and the High Commission of India are closely working together to send the Botswana T-20 Women’s Cricket Team to India for exposure and skills upgrades.
Kuthati further noted that this gesture will prepare the Women’s Team for the forthcoming ICC tournaments.
The Durga Puja cultural event saw different cultural performances by the children, youth and elders of the Tangore Society, who wore their cultural regalia.
