Botswana: The Gaborone City Council has invited the people to register themselves for the Indigenous Sweet and Savoury Cook-off. The event will be hosted for the home bakers of the city who have been working with deserts and baked goods.

The bakers based in Gaborone can register themselves at the nearest Home Economics office (Tsholofelo Hall, G-West Hall or Lesedi Hall). The last date for registration to participate in the Indigenous Sweet and Savoury Cook-off is July 9, 2024.

The competition will feature a variety of talented cooks ready to create the delicious food that is unique to Botswana. The members of the community have shared that they were delighted by the Gaborone District Council’s decision to host the cook off.

The competition will ensure that the people can continue to honor and celebrate the unique and inspirational cuisine of Botswana. The theme of the event will be, “Going Back to our Forgotten Gems”

The cook off competition will be held on Julyy 31 and August 1. The organization has announced a series of rules for the competition.

The following are the contest rules and basic information.

  • The competition is open to any Motswana residing within Gaborone.
  • Registration is done during working hours at your nearest Home Economics Office (Tsholofelo Hall, Gaborone West Hall or Lesedi Hall.
  • Contestants may be aspiring bakers, amateurs or Culinary Arts Students. Professional chefs or cooks may not enter the contest.
  • Entry is free, however contestants must be able to source own ingredients of which one or more should be of Setswana/ Indigenous origion

Contestants may not have more than two entries per category for judging.

Categories of the competition and prizes will be announced further during orientation which will be held on the 12th July 2024 at Civic Centre Hall.

The officials have shared that they want to honor and highlight the talented chefs of the city for their magic with culinary arts.
