GCC participates in Telecommunications Corporation marathon

Botswana: Gaborone City Council (GCC) participated in the 2024 edition of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation marathon. The event was hosted in Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown on Saturday, April 20.

The event was attended and contested by several government and non-government organizations across the country. Ten staff members from the Gaborone City Council took part in different categories of the marathon.

Some of the events which saw participation from the employees of the Gaborone City Council include the 10 km marathon, the 21 km marathon, and the 42.2 km marathon. GCC was represented by 2 staff members in the 21km category.

1 member of the city council staff was in the 42.2km category. Meanwhile, the rest of the members participated in the 10km category. The organization has been delighted with the success of their employees and members.

The participating members returned to Gaborone after the Telecommunications Corporation marathon and were welcomed by the Mayor of Gaborone. He further congratulated the athletes for competing and representing City Council well in Francistown.

The City Mayor further spoke of the importance of participating in these sporting activities. He said that it is a sign of a Council that nurtures the talents of its own staff.

He also noted that the programme also promotes the Council as a stakeholder in open market.

The Deputy Town Clerk Corporate Services, Daniel Katjinotjiwa, applauded staff members for their performance. He also promised to always support when participating in such activities.

Katjinotjiwa said that as an employer, the City Council is also mandated to promote staff wellness, including sporting activities. Lesedinyane Tumelo beat the odds to win the 42.2 km, P10,000. 00 in prize money.

Meanwhile Ms Tshoganetso Makgabana and Tummie Tshiping competed in the 21km race and Mr Daniel Katjinotjiwa, Tebogo Motsamai , Seitebaleng Sanda ,Neo Kgaodi , Gaolekwe Sebonego , Gaofenngwe Moalosi , Shathiso Sefako and Keitumetse Baitshothi competed in the 10km race.
