Ghana and the Netherlands signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to cooperate and fight against illicit drugs as well as related criminal activities. This agreement mainly focuses on dismantling transnational gangs who are involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
The West African country emphasised on the severe social risks posed by drug trafficking and stressed upon the need for international collaboration. The Netherlands leverage its advanced digital technologies to track and stop criminal networks by operating across borders.
According to the Foreign Affairs Minister – Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that this special agreement intent to cut off connection with drug markets.

During the Dutch ministers’ official visit to Ghana, Minister Ablakwa signed the agreement with Minister of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – D.M. Van Weel
He assured that the agreement is built completely on Accra Call to Action idea where both countries will lead globally and handle the growing threat of illegal drugs. Ablakwa said that these drugs are destroying young lives, affecting public health, challenging the law and rules, and violating the human rights.
International cooperations with stronger connections will help in disrupting criminal networks who are responsible for trafficking cocaine and other synthetic drugs between Ghana and the Netherlands, said Ablakwa. He described the signed MOA as an important step towards strengthening the law, securing youngsters and protecting future of communities.

The Foreign Affairs Minister Ablakwa applauded Minister Van Weel for visiting Ghana and promising to deepen the political relation between the two countries to curb the problem of trafficking illicit drugs.
