Zambia: Heavy police were deployed in Kabwe to tackle any uncertain situation after Tutwa Ngulube’s memorial service was cancelled last minute.
As per rumours, Ngulube’s first memorial service was cancelled last minute after Edgar Lungu-led Patriotic Front (PF) group intended to turn the service into a political rally.
Notably, the ceremony was scheduled to start with a Church Service at St. Marks UCZ Church in Railways Compound in Kabwe at 09:00hrs. Tutwa Sandani Ngulube, a former member of parliament for Kabwe Central, died on the 3rd of December 2022 due to a sudden heart attack.
Earlier yesterday, Patriotic Front (PF) Vice President Given Lubinda urged all party members and supporters to turn up in numbers clad in PF regalia. This was done in order to demonstrate that Tutwa’s lost life was being remembered and celebrated by the political family he belonged to.
But the police revealed through their spokesperson Rae Hamoonga that they were not happy with this arrangement. Following this, they issued veiled threats against such plans. After threats and intimidations, Tutwa’s family last night were cowed into submission.
One of the locals said, “HH has sent his CADRES in uniform to disrupt the planned memorial service for the late Tutwa Ngulube. Tutwa Ngulube, even in your death, the UPND are still afraid of you, RIP.”
Afterwards, the organizers planned the unveiling of the Tombstone and, later, a celebration of his life with refreshments. The event is to be hosted at the family house in Highridge, Luapula Street, opposite Luapula Flats, near Bankers Nest Shopping Complex in Kabwe.
