Masvingo, Zimbabwe: Five students of Ndarama High School, Masvingo, established their own company ‘Mobile Intelligence Technologies (MI-Tech)’ and designed a science application ‘MI-Lab’.
The project was pursued under the initiative ‘Education 5.0 model’ taken by the country and fruitfully produced innovative minds. The application ensures science experiments that can be carried out offline, on mobile phones or computer devices without internet services.
The chief executive officer of MI-Tech – Anesu Ruzive, said that the objective of establishing the firm is to ensure students carry out science experiments even outside the laboratories.
Ruzive mentioned that their team came up with the application idea to reduce the socio-economic barriers, location and digital gap so it can be operated on all Android phones. People can also carry out scientific experiments at home, which can make it easier for them to learn.
The students developed the programming of the MI-Lab application under the guidance of other programming experts.
Production Designer of Mobile Intelligence Technologies – Prosper Dzinavatonga, quoted that they have got the production team, who have come up with the application. They are also engaged with the experts to assist them since the times when they have not acquired enough expertise in the field.
Recently, MI-Tech company got the opportunity to represent the nation at the Regional Junior Achievement Awards in Rwanda and won the prize.
Considering the same, the Finance Director of MI-Tech – Tapiwa Chuma, expressed that after winning the national Junior Achievement Awards, they have represented the country in Rwanda, which ran under the theme ‘Breaking Barriers’.
“We managed to scoop the US $1000 grand prize, trophy and certificates,” added the finance director.
Government officials have also praised the students of Ndarama who are proving young people’s capabilities through innovation.
Masvingo District School’s Inspector – Ismael Chigaba, expressed, “As Masvingo, we are proud of Ndrama students, it shows that we are going in the right direction if we are producing such students with innovative minds.”
“It also shows the capabilities of our young generation,” said Inspector Chigaba. After all these achievements, the MI-Tech team is all set to conquer the trophy for Africa in 2024.
