Kenya: Residents of Hola constituency have turned up for a free medical camp organized by the Kenya Ports Authority in collaboration with the government of Tana River. Over 1000 people have gathered for their check-up.
Reportedly, the medical services offered at the camp includes outpatient care for common ailments such as respiratory infections, abdominal issues, and hypertension, as well as specialized services like eye care, cervical cancer screening, and general consultancy and health check-ups. The services are currently being conducted at the Laza Primary School in Hola.
The initiative is a part of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program introduced by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) that aims at improving access to healthcare for underserved communities.
Furthermore, to ensure the success of the event, Kenya Ports Authority has invested three million shillings towards the procurement of various medical supplies. More than 100 KPA medical personnel had a host of healthcare providers and volunteers from the county to cater to the expected patients.
As per the sources, this is the second free medical camp that the Authority has successfully conducted in the current financial year, following a similar exercise held in Baragoni Village, Lamu County, last month.
Notably, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to advance healthcare in marginalized areas within the coast region, Kenya Ports Authority conducted at least two free medical camps each financial year.
The local leaders and residents have welcomed the initiative by describing it as timely and essential in a region where access to quality healthcare remains a challenge.
Earlier, in May 2025, Hundreds of Baragoni residents in Lamu central sub-county benefited from a free medical camp organized by KPA.
The local community benefited from several essential health services offered by a team of medical experts. The medical camp aims to improve access to quality healthcare, promote health awareness and support the wellbeing of the residents of Baragoni and the surrounding areas that have difficulties in accessing healthcare services. The initiative is part of KPA’s broader CSI program, with health as one of the key focus areas.
Considering this, Acting Manager Corporate Communication – Jones Buchere thanked the residents of Baragoni for turning up for the medical camp and they are looking forward to continuing the partnership in building a better future for all.
He added that KPA remains committed to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development. Buchere said by investing in health initiatives like this, they are confident to contribute to a healthier and more resilient society.
The medical camp held at Baragoni Primary School saw hundreds of residents from Bobo, Magumba, Milimani and Bodhai junction benefit from free screening and consultations.
Manager at Medical Services – Dr. Gome Lenga underscored the role that the Authority played in helping the less privileged members of the society to get quality healthcare through Corporate Social Investment (CSI).
He stressed that the camp was critical for the residents of Baragoni noting that two patients have been referred to King Fahad Hospital in Lamu for specialized treatment.
“Most of the patients treated had common ailments, which could have been managed but unfortunately due to high poverty levels and the long distances needed to access proper medical facilities they remained helpless,” said Dr. Gome.
Some of the community members who benefited from the free medical camp lauded KPA for the noble gesture and said that the event enabled them to get proper medical treatment without paying a single cent. They appealed to the Authority and corporate entities to carry out exercises on a regular basis.
On his part, the area Assistant Chief – Salim Abul Salim said the residents have a challenge of getting proper medical care due to financial constraints and lack of essential drugs in the local medical facilities.
