Cape Town: The Hout Bay Library celebrated 35 years of the service towards the community, on Wednesday, August 07, 2024. The library has eight dedicated staff members to serve the 1800 registered facility patrons.
As the report claims, Hout Bay has a good track record of services to the community that includes regular storytelling and reading programmes, also considering the literacy programmes at the schools.
The Patrons have access to SmartCape printing and photocopy services. During the month of July, the library’s circulation figures saw 3,682 items booked.
Moreover, the library also has new book reservations where patrons can be the first to read new books as well as can build a friends committee that manages many donations received from the public.
Considering this Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that they are excited to share the happiness of celebrating, such a big milestone.
She said that Libraries play such an important role as spaces, where anyone can enjoy reading a book or learning a new hobby. “I would like to thank the staff, the community and Friends of the library for ensuring that everyone has access to learning,” added Ross.
Councillor Patricia also mentioned that they are looking forward to the next 35 years of service excellence.
Hout Bay Public Library provides services to the community and residents of Hout Bay. Here the community members can loan books and have access to media sources such as computers, newspapers and a variety of other resources.
The library also runs a range of educational and fun programmes in all of the libraries. It provides several facilities of multimedia resources, magazines and newspapers.
Hout Bay Library also features workstations and computers, parking lot and a SmartCape Internet access.
The library also provides the services of Block loans on request, library orientation, storytelling, education and literacy programmes, school outings and SmartCape.
