Cape Town: Youth Day was observed in the city on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Member of the Mayoral Commitee for Economic Growth – Alderman James Vos encouraged young people to sign up on Jobs Connect.
The platform provided by the City of Cape Town links residents with real job opportunities in the private sector. It is free and easy to use and has already helped thousands of people to get a foot in the door.
This programme has been developed, as a top priority for Alderman James Vos in order to connect people to the work, which is the most powerful way to build an economy of hope and confidence.
Reportedly, South Africa is commemorating Youth Month and is calling young Capetonians to seize the opportunities that are offered by the flagship workforce development programe of the City of Cape Town – ‘Jobs Connect’.
According to Vos, Youth Month is a time to reflect on the challenges that young people are facing in taking actionable steps towards their empowerment. He said that Jobs Connect was established to bridge the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities, by making the job process more accessible and cost-effective.
What Jobs Connect Is?
Jobs Connect is a free, and data-free platform for MTN and Vodacom-users, designed specially to connect job seekers with potential employers. The City has recognized the financial burdens associated with job hunting such as transportation costs, printing CVs and internet access, and considering this they have launched an initiative to alleviate the challenges.
Since its inception, over 147,750 Capetonians have registered themselves on the platform, and have access to a wide range of employment and training opportunities.
Alderman James Vos’ on Jobs Connect
James Vos believes in approaching by call-to-action method, so he emphasized the importance of youth participation. He describes that this initiative aims to reduce the unemployment queue in Cape Town. Jobs Connect is a pivotal tool in achieving that goal.
He encouraged all young people to register on the platform and take advantage of the opportunities available.
Alderman James Vos desires to make Youth Month a time of remembrance and a period of proactive engagement, as together they can build a future where every young person in Cape Town has the opportunity to thrive.

Jobs Connect Achievements
Till now, Jobs Connect have registered several achievements to its name and has impacted many, such as:
- 4,485 individuals have secured entry-level work placements.
- Nearly 4,555 individuals have benefitted from educational, learnership, and partnership placements.
- It has also facilitated 3,200 voluntary and graduate placements.
- 495 individuals with disabilities have been placed in meaningful work opportunities.
Alderman Vos noted that these figures highlight the success of the programme in creating tangible employment pathways for the residents.
