Ghana: John Dramani Mahama sworn-in as the new President of Ghana. It is for the third time that Mahama has stand against the backdrop of the worst economic crisis in a generation. Thousands of Ghanaians from all walks of life attended the ceremony in the capital on Tuesday.
The swearing-in ceremony of Mahama was held at the iconic Black Star Square in the capital of Ghana, Accra. He is an opposition leader who started his political career as communications minister and won the presidential election last year and pledged to tackle the economic crisis, corruption and unemployment.
New President John Mahama, aged 66 has also served earlier as Ghana’s president between July 2012 and January 2017. He has replaced the former President Nana Akufo-Addo. Mahama, first took pledge as president, when President John Evans Atta Mills died in July 2012. He served the rest of the term and then won the election in 2012.
The official ceremony was attended by various delegates and ministers from different nations. President of Kenya William Samoei Ruto also attended the ceremony and was among those several African leaders who attended the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s new President John Dramani Mahama.
After the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama assured through his speech that businesses and investors that Ghana is open for business and is promising a more transparent and fair tax regime to stimulate the growth.
President of Rwanda Kagame also joined thousands of Ghanaians current and former African heads of State and global dignitaries in the ceremony and marked president’s return to office and first female Vice-President of Ghana.
President of Burkina Faso – Ibrahim Traore also attended the inauguration ceremony. It was a rare foreign trip of President Traore that he enjoyed the privilege of wearing his military uniform, carrying a pistol and have his own armed personal security.
Last December, in Kenya President Mahama met with President Ruto and they agreed that the two nations would enhance their relations in trade and investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, as well as oil and gas.
They also fulfilled their commitment to broaden the opportunities for the people of the countries and enable them to travel, trade and do business.
