Zambia, Kabompo: Senior Chief Sikufele of the Mbunda-speaking people of Manyinga and Kabompo Districts in Northwestern Province has appealed to the Ministry of Health in Manyinga District to enhance their engagements with Civic and traditional leadership in the area in the fight against Cholera.
The Traditional Leader said involving the Civic and Traditional Leaders in the fight against the Pandemic will make it more effective. He added that combating the disease needs a multi-sectoral approach to prevent its outbreak in the District.
“Can we have our Officers from the Ministry of Health work closely with our Area Councilors and Village Headmen and Women? This way, we shall effectively fight Cholera in this District,” Senior Chief Sikufele said.
Speaking during the District Epidemic Preparedness Committee meeting held at Manyinga town Council Chamber today, the Traditional Leader stated that the fight against Cholera should be everyone’s responsibility including sensitizing one another on the dangers of Cholera as Citizens.
Speaking at the same meeting, District Health Director Paul Kambangu noted that it is very crucial to work together with local stakeholders, including Headmen and Women, to fight Cholera in Local Communities effectively.
Kambangu added that once the Schools reopen, Health Service Providers working in collaboration with the Office of the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) will start going around the Schools to make sure that the preventive measures are followed and are in place.
“It’s very impressive that Key Stakeholders who, including Traditional Leaders, are involved in the field fight against Cholera”, he said.
Meanwhile, Loloma Ward Councilor Doris Dingombi, who is also Manyinga Town Council Deputy Chairperson, has appealed to the Ministry of Health in the District to expedite the Sensitization on the Cholera Outbreak in all Wards across the District and preventive measures that have been put in place to curb the outbreak of the disease the District.
