Zambia: The police force of Southern Province has received the reports of a suicide attempt. The victim has been identified as a 40-year-old man from Kalomo District. The victim committed suicide by running in the direction of an oncoming Volvo Truck.
Before the incident, the victim was accused of allegedly stealing livestock belonging to his wife. The suicide incident happened on Saturday, February 2 when he was being taken to the police. The victim has been identified as Henry Siamaleke.
The wife of the deceased, 38 year old Mable Muninde reported the incident on February, 2, 2024 around 08:30 hours. Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka explained the details of the incident to the media.
According to the commissioner, the deceased stole three herds of cattle branded T-D-S. The officials have shared that the theft happened on February 24. All the livestock were valued at K23,000. The cattle belonged to his wife as she had inherited them from her late mother.
At the time of the theft, the animals were being kept by Douglas Siachibila of B William Farms in Chikoli A, Kalomo.
Daka further revealed that the deceased also stole a cow branded T-D-S and five goats all valued at K11, 000. This set of livestock was also being kept by Siachila.
The police officers revealed that the cattle belonged to 29-year-old Moses Mubiana. He had bought the cattle and used the brand mark for Muninde.
The deceased ran away from home after learning that he had been reported to the Police for two counts of stock theft. Further, around 07:00 hours on March 2, he surrendered himself to his wife by telling her to take him to the Police.
The incident happened when the couple was on the way from Maclaymond Compound to Kalomo Police Station. The now deceased abruptly threw himself onto the oncoming trailer of a Volvo truck.
The vehicle was being driven by 25-year-old Barnabas Muchiya of Twapya Township in Ndola At the time of the incident, the vehicle was travelling to Livingstone.
Seamanlike sustained a broken right hand and broken skull and he died on the spot. The Police Officers rushed to the scene to see the scene of death and pick up his remains. Meanwhile, the truck was allowed to proceed after formalities.
