Zambia: District Commissioner for Kalulushi Kelly Jibinga has applauded the Ministry of health for addressing the health needs of girls. The officials have shared that the district commissioner made the remarks while commemorating International Day Of The Girl Child.
The commemoration was hosted in Kalulushi district through school based and community-based services. The officials have shared that the leaders are celebrating the young women of the district who have worked hard to be deserving of honors and recognition.

He says the district vaccinated 2,098 girls against Tetanus, which he said is an important step in protecting girls from life threatening conditions that can severely impact their health and future prospects.
The members of the community were given the chance to make sure that the young girls of the district are given the respect and appreciation. The officials of the district organized several initiatives
He disclosed that in a bid to combat cervical cancer, the Ministry of Health has also vaccinated 7,000 girls against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), routine vaccination for the girls aged 9 years and catch-up vaccination for girls aged 10-15 years.
Jibinga further disclosed that the Ministry of Health has also made significant strides in promoting the empowerment and education of girls in Kalulushi district.
He said government has also made interventions towards demonstrating commitment to ensuring that girls have access to quality education, even in challenging circumstances.
He said government recognizes hunger and malnutrition as significant barriers to education and girls in particular.
Jibinga notes that Kalulushi district has received 75 bags of beans and 100 by 50 kilogram bags of maize to support school feeding programs. Speaking earlier, Rotary Club of Kalulushi President Faith Lamba said they are aware that one of the objectives of the Girl Child day is to increase awareness on the importance of female education, health and nutrition.
Lamba explained that it resonates with the basic education and literacy focus area under Rotary International. Acting Nursing Officer Mwanga Kafwa said the only challenge the world is facing is teenage pregnancies.
Kafwa encouraged girls to concentrate in their education and avoid teenage pregnancies which can make them drop out of school.
