Zambia: A 35 year old man of Manyama area in Kalumbila District has died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle. The accident shook the family of the deceased, who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
The police of Northwestern Province has confirmed the incident and shared some of the details about the accident . Police Commanding Officer, Dennis Moola said the incident happened on 1st February, 2024 around 22:45 hours.
Further, the police force has also identified the deceased as Raphael Kumwenda. The officers shared a statement where they shared all the details about the incident.
The incident occurred on 1st February 2024 at about 22:45 hours in the Manyama area along Lumwana Kalumbila road. Shield Chobe, 42, of Ndola, was driving a Toyota Fortuner with registration number ALM 3085.
He was driving along the same road from East to West at a high speed and hit a male adult pedestrian, namely Kumwenda Raphael. The victim was aged between 25 and 35 of Manyama area who was in front walking along the above mentioned road. The pedestrian was coming from the opposite direction.”
Commanding officer Moola said due to the impact of the hit the victim sustained fatal injuries. The injuries included a deep cut on the stomach, on the right knee, fractured left leg and a deep cut on the back of the head.
“Damages to the motor vehicle are as follows; Damaged radiator, front bumper, deformed bonnet, shattered front windscreen, damaged grill, broken left rear lamp, broken side view mirror, exploded air bags,” Mr Moola said.
Commanding officer Moola said the body of the deceased is currently lying in Lumwana District Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
“Scene visited and docket of case opened and the driver has been charged for causing death by ddangerous driving,” he said.
Officer Moola said the driver is in Police custody and the motor vehicle has been impounded.
