Zambia: The Police force in Lusaka has arrested Jane Gondwe aged 39-year-old Kanyama compound. She has been taken into custody for allegedly pouring boiling water on her 25-year-old niece identified as Gloria Mudenda.
The attack on the youngster resulted in severe injury on the person of the victim. The incident happened on February 17. The officials have shared that the victim was rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale shared some details about the incident. He shared that the investigation into the matter is currently in progress.
The Police Public Relations Officer revealed that the incident was reported to the police by the victim. “The victim, who also sustained a cut on the right side of her head, alleged that she was also hit with different objects including a frying pan before boiling water was poured on her.”
The incident was witnessed by some members of the society when the suspect attacked her niece.
Mwale reveals that concerned members of the public intervened and rushed the victim to the hospital. At the Kanyama Level One Hospital, the doctors informed the investigating officials that the suspect suffered severe burns on her back.
The officials further confirmed that the victim is admitted in a stable condition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Gondwe sells Chickens. On February 17, 2024, Mudenda was supposed to dress the chickens in readiness for selling.
However, she gave an excuse that she was not feeling well.
Mwale discloses that this angered her aunt who reacted by pouring boiling water meant for tea on her. Afterward, the suspect started hitting her with different objects including a frying pan.
He reveals that they both live together at the same family house in Old Kanyama. The suspect is detained in Police custody waiting to be formally charged.
The people of the country have shared their disappointment with the act of aggression and cruelty that the suspect has shown. Some comments condemned the actions, while others sympathized with the victim.
Some commenters also suggested that the suspect should have asked the victim to leave her home rather than acting like this.
