Zambia: Four people have died while 16 others sustained injuries in a road crash that occurred on Thursday, January 11. The reports suggest that the incident took place around 11:40 hours along the Great North Road, Green Leaf area in Kapiri Mposhi.
The number of road crashes have been increasing in the country, a trend that is worrying the local authorities. The police force of the Lusaka Province reached the scene of the accident after receiving the reports of the incident. They thoroughly scoped the area for evidence and important details about the incident.
The authorities have identified the suspects involved in the accident at Kapiri Mposhi. The first victim is was Kennedy Banda. The victim was 37 old and a resident of Kabanana Compound in Lusaka. He was north bound driving a Howo truck and trailer, property of Ustad tracking of Lusaka.
Central Province Commissioner of Police, Charity Munganga, also identified the other driver involved in the accident as Chinjaja Mooto Mbamvu. The 44-year-old was a resident of Kapisha township in Chingola.
The victim of the Kapiri Mposhi road crash was driving a Mitsubishi Rosa Minibus from the opposite direction with 18 passengers on board. The people of the country have shared their condolences on the death of the four individuals.
Central Province Police CommandMunganga narrates that the accident happened when the driver of the bus was improperly overtaking the other vehicle. In the process, collided head-on with the Howo truck.
She says that due to the impact, the driver of the bus and two unidentified male passengers died on the spot while the fourth male unknown male passenger died upon arrival at Kabwe Central Hospital.
The driver of the truck is among the injured, while the bodies of the deceased persons are lying in Kapiri Moshi district and Kabwe Central Hospitals.
The investigators have not made any official arrests in the matter. Meanwhile, the people of the country have noted that the people must drive more carefully and make not engage in illegal driving behaviours, such as speeding and wrong overtaking.
