Kenya: CS Ministry of Energy & Petroleum Davis Chirchir has expressed the commitment of the Ministry to work with Kenya Forest Service in tree growing & rehabilitation of degraded forest areas across the country as part of the Ministry’s approach towards its mandate in reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions and carbon footprint arising from its operations in the Fossil Fuels Sector.
The CS was joined by the PS State Dept. for Petroleum, Mohamed Liban, the Managing Director Kenya Pipeline Company, Joe Sang and other officials from the Energy Sector in launching the Ministry’s tree planting programme by planting 1,100 indigenous tree seedlings at Kona Baridi, Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado County.
The CS outlined the aim of the Ministry and the State Agencies under it to develop an educational program as part of its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy, targeting the general public on the need to adopt the national tree growing drive as directed by the President to achieve 30% tree cover by 2032.
The State Department for Petroleum has set out a roadmap as a follow up to today’s launch, committing to growing 55,000 tree seedlings under the program as part of its parent ministry’s overall target following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with KFS to support the National target of planting 15 Billion tree seedlings by 2032.

Furthermore, they mentioned, “The State Dept. for Petroleum has set out a roadmap as a follow up to today’s launch, committing to growing 55,000 tree seedlings over the next five years under the program as part of its parent ministry’s overall target following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with KFS.”
