Kenya Force Service Commandment – Mohammed A. Mohammed visited the officers who are deployed in the Bodhei and Kipini operation areas as part of a routine engagement and aims at appreciating their efforts and gaining a firsthand understanding of the challenges that they face in the line of duty.
During their visit, Commandment Mohammed lauded the officers for their high level of motivation and commitment to safeguard forests within the Boni enclave. He noted that the officers are working closely with other multi-agency security forces to ensure that the area remains secure and free from illegal activities that threaten forest conservation.
The KFS Commandment encouraged the officers to continue uphold the discipline and a high sense of integrity while executing their responsibilities. He further emphasised the importance of respecting community norms and values. He underscored that effective forest protection is strengthened through professionalism and positive engagement with local communities.
Notably, Mohammed was accompanied by Head Audit – Stephan Mugi and other senior officers.
Also, trees were grown at Ruthumbi Forest Station in Meru, earlier. It was a great initiative by Eastern Conservancy that marked the end of the year with a ceremonial tree planting exercise at Marimba Beat in Meru County. The event brought together the government officials, community leaders and local stakeholders to celebrate conservation efforts and strengthen initiatives that actually aims at forest restoration.
Kenya Forest Service (KFS) led the exercise by working closely with the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders. The event welcomed PS Forestry – Gitonga Mugambi as a Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of integrating environmental conservation with the preservation of cultural heritage. The occasion marked the official launch of the Nkuene-Mitunguu Njuri Ncheke Shrine within Ruthumbi Forest Station.
Reportedly, seven indigenous seedlings were planted across 0.007 hectares area which included:
- Ocotea Usambarensis
- Podocarpus Falcatus
- Olea Africana
- Warbugia Ugandensis
These selected species underscored a commitment to protect local biodiversity and promote sustainable forestry practices in the region. Participants lauded the activity for fostering community involvement in conservation and for setting a model for future tree growing exercises.
It was a morning event that concluded with a renewed commitment to preserve indigenous tree species and advanced forest restoration agenda of Kenya. This left a lasting impact on both the environment and the local communities.
