Cape Town: A Tree Planting ceremony was held last week to highlight the importance of the plantation ahead of the winter season. As a part of the pre-Arbor Day initiative of the City of Cape Town, a total of 78 trees were planted along Kruskal Avenue in Bellville.
The green nature filled event marked a significant step in the ongoing efforts to revitalise the Bellville CBD. This greening project was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Recreation and Parks Department, Urban Planning and Design and the Newlands Nursery as a part of the broader urban renewal and sustainability programme of the city.
Reportedly, the ceremonial tree planting was held last week to highlight the importance of planting ahead of the winter season, allowing the trees to settle and improve their chances of thriving in spring.

The 78 trees were carefully selected and planted in strategic locations along Kruskal Avenue. The mix includes indigenous and hardy species well-suited to the urban environment.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham said that trees beautify the city and improve the air quality and contribute to the physical and mental health of those who work and live in these areas.
Such initiatives like this are a great example of how they can work together to build a greener and more sustainable Cape Town. Higham said, “Well done to all involved and thank you to those who will continue to care for these trees as they grow.”

Furthermore, the Newlands Nursery supplied the trees, while the local horticultural team from the Recreation and Parks Department supported transport, planting and will oversee ongoing maintenance. This initiative demonstrates the strong commitment of the City of Cape Town to inter-departmental collaboration in delivering the environmental and community benefits. However, the City of Cape Town encourages its residents and local businesses to help care for the newly planted trees.
