Kenya Ports Authority got qualified for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Basketball league Africa (WBLA) after defeating Burundi’s Less Hippos 89-81 in the third-place play-off of the Zone Five Qualifiers at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium, Nairobi on Saturday, Nov 15, 2025.
The continental championship has brought together the leading teams in Africa which is scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt next month in Dec 2025.

After the soul-searching moments, the Dockers returned to the pitch more organised and focused on their grand mission to secure a ticket to the continental games.
While playing hard game, the KPA team grabbed control of the first quarter, closing the game with score 22-26 as Les hippos struggled to seal their shaky defence. The Dockers intensified their offensive as well as defence leading to 44-28 by end of the first half.
However, the third quarter saw a much composed Les Hippos side that made some quick recovery cy collecting 18-15 points to reduce the widening range quite substantially.
Coming at the fourth quarter, the two teams were on a tie at 75-75 and forced to game to move into extra time. Then a time-out call was given by Coach Atony Ojukwu, the Dockers then managed to effectively implement their game plan by yielding 14 points to end the game 89-81.
During the closing ceremony Rwanda teams APR and REG were awarded with trophies for the champions and runners-up, while KPA collected third position trophy.
FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA)
The FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa is the highest continental tournament in African Women’s Basketball. It is organised by the FIBA Africa and played by the champions of the leagues of the African countries.
The tournament was known as the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball Cup until the league rebranded in 2023 in the ‘Africa Women’s Basketball League’ (AWBL). A year later, the name was slightly adjusted and finalised to ‘Women’s Basketball League Africa’ (WBLA).
