Kenya: The President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Dr William Ruto, planted a ceremonial tree during the Administration Police Pass out Parade in Embakasi, Nairobi County.
In his speech, he urged all the graduands to grow trees in the different parts of the country that they come from to contribute to the tree growing campaign. The President further challenged all uniformed officers to liaise with KFS and Nairobi County government to plant at least 10 million trees across Nairobi county.
The KFS team at the function was led by the Assistant County Forest Conservator, Mr Ambrose Genga.
Elsewhere in the country, the National tree Growing Restoration Campaign that was launched by the President has been ongoing in several counties. The Principal Secretary of the State Department of Forestry, Mr Ephantus Kimani, led the planting of 205 seedlings at Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado County.
He was joined by renowned athletes, including sprinter and climate change ambassador Ferdinand Omanyala who pledged to plant 1 million seedlings within the year.
In the North Rift Conservation area, the KFS Board Chairman, Mr Job Chirchir, led members of the public and government agencies in the region in planting 606 seedlings at Kibirong wetlands in Nandi county. A total of 1200 assorted indigenous seedlings were also distributed to the members of the community.
In Nyanza Conservancy, a total of 7300 seedlings were planted in Kisumu, Kisii, Migori and Kisii counties. These events facilitated by KFS were conducted in schools and public spaces and also involved the National Government Administrative Officers and local leaders.
Kenya Forest Service officially informed the public about the President’s initiative in this plantation via tweet in which they mentioned, “The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Dr Williams Ruto planted a ceremonial tree during the Administration Police Pass out Parade in Embakasi, Nairobi County.
